Sowing Seeds of Sustainability: Cardo Partners with Nant Caerau Primary through the Shape My Street Project
Cardo proudly partnered with Nant Caerau Primary School in Ely to help realise their vision of transforming their garden as part of our Shape My Street Project. This initiative has enriched the school’s outdoor space, demonstrating Cardo’s commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and empowering young people to shape their surroundings.
The project introduced several exciting features to enhance biodiversity and create spaces for relaxation and play:
- Quiet Reflection Area: We installed a recycled bench, creating a peaceful spot where students can unwind and enjoy the natural setting.
- Upcycled Planter with Frog Bird Bath: Using repurposed bricks from another site, we built a circular planter with a frog bird bath, attracting wildlife and serving as a focal point in the garden.
- Wildlife Habitats: To encourage biodiversity, we placed bird boxes, hedgehog houses, bee hotels, and squirrel shelters throughout the garden, inviting a range of species to make their home here.
- “Rainbow Road” Street Sign: In a collaborative activity, students voted to name a “street” within their garden, with “Rainbow Road” emerging as the favourite. A custom street sign was then installed to mark the spot.
Through this project, Cardo has not only enhanced the garden’s functionality and beauty but also created a lasting educational impact, inspiring students to connect with nature and take pride in their environment.
The Shape My Street Project reflects our ongoing dedication to positive community change, blending sustainable practices with meaningful social value.
