Advice

Whether it’s preparing for a repairs visit, saving on energy bills, staying safe at home, or building new skills, our advice is designed to help you feel confident, prepared, and supported. Below, you’ll find practical tips with explanations to make them easy to follow.

Winter Tips

Stay safe, warm, and save money at home during the colder months with these simple tips:

Keep Warm:

Set your thermostat between 18–21°C to stay comfortable without wasting energy.

Close curtains at night and seal draughts around windows and doors to keep the heat in.

Wear layers indoors and use rugs on cold floors to help retain warmth.

Save Energy and Money:

Fit radiator reflectors to prevent heat loss through walls.

Switch to LED bulbs and turn off appliances and chargers when not in use.

Consider long-term upgrades like loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, or a smart thermostat to reduce bills.

Stay Safe:

Check heating systems, boilers, and smoke/CO alarms regularly.

Keep walkways, entrances, and paths clear of snow or ice to avoid slips and falls.

Avoid using portable heaters near flammable items and never leave them unattended.

Look After Your Home:

Prevent frozen pipes by keeping a small trickle of water running on very cold nights and opening cupboard doors under sinks.

Ventilate your home regularly to avoid damp and condensation.

Report any maintenance issues promptly to prevent small problems from becoming bigger during winter.

What You Can Expect from Us

When we carry out work in your home, we will always be polite, professional, and respectful of your lifestyle and household routines. We will keep noise, dust, disruption, and inconvenience to a minimum, and take care to keep the workspace clean, tidy, and safe. We will wear shoe or boot covers when entering your home and take photos of the work area before and after the job. Wherever possible, we aim to complete the work in a single visit, and we will help move bulky items if needed, returning everything to its original place when the work is done.

We will communicate clearly about the work being carried out and the expected timescales, and we will always ask permission before using facilities, leaving them spotless if used. We will consider your safety, comfort, and any specific needs, including those of your family, pets, or home-working arrangements. Finally, we will let you know whenever we leave and return, ensure the home or area is secure when we finish, and advise neighbours if our work might cause any disruption.

Preparing for Maintenance and Repairs

A little preparation can make repairs faster, safer, and more effective. You can help by:

  • Clearing the workspace by moving furniture, belongings, or obstacles. This allows our team to work safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of damage to your belongings.
  • Keeping pets and children in another room or with a neighbour during the visit, to keep everyone safe and help our team focus.
  • Asking questions about the work when our team explains the process. Understanding what’s being done helps you maintain it in the future and prevents small issues from becoming bigger problems.
  • Checking the work and reporting concerns immediately. Prompt feedback ensures any issues are resolved quickly, keeping your home safe and comfortable.
