Supporting Community Connections at the Cippenham Carnival

Community Challenge

Community events play an important role in bringing people together, reducing social isolation and creating opportunities for residents to connect with local organisations. The annual Cippenham Carnival is a valued tradition that celebrates local heritage while encouraging community participation and neighbourhood pride.

Our Commitment

As part of Cardo’s commitment to delivering meaningful social value, we were proud to sponsor and support the annual Cippenham Carnival.

Established by Betty Turner in 1981 as part of the Royal British Legion’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the carnival has grown into a much-loved event held each year on Cippenham Village Green. It attracts families, local businesses, community groups and partner organisations from across the area.

Delivering Social Value

Cardo’s sponsorship helped support the continued success of this long-standing community event while creating valuable opportunities for community engagement.

Our team hosted an interactive community stand alongside popular attractions including the classic car display and ice cream van, providing a welcoming space for residents to meet the team, ask questions and learn more about the services and support available.

A special thanks goes to Duncan, whose expertise in setting up and managing the Cardo bus awning ensured the stand was safe, welcoming and highly visible throughout the day.

Social Value Outcomes

Through our involvement, Cardo delivered social value by:

  • Sponsoring a free community event attended by approximately 2500 local residents.
  • Engaging directly with more than 60 residents through conversations at the Cardo stand.
  • Supporting a community event that brought together over 100 local charities, voluntary organisations and businesses.
  • Providing colleagues with volunteering and community engagement opportunities that strengthened local relationships.
  • Promoting community wellbeing by supporting an inclusive activities.
  • Demonstrating our long-term commitment to investing in the communities where we deliver housing and property services.

Impact

Our participation helped to:

  • Strengthen relationships between Cardo and local residents.
  • Increase awareness of Cardo’s role within the community.
  • Support community cohesion by encouraging positive conversations in an informal setting.
  • Celebrate local heritage by contributing to an event that has been part of the Cippenham community since 1981.
  • Reinforce Cardo’s commitment to creating thriving, connected neighbourhoods.

Looking Ahead

Supporting events such as the Cippenham Carnival is an important part of Cardo’s wider social value programme. By working alongside residents, community organisations and local partners, we continue to create opportunities that strengthen communities, encourage resident engagement and leave a lasting positive impact beyond the services we deliver every day.

A key feature of the Cippenham Carnival is its ongoing commitment to supporting local charities and community organisations. Each year, the event raises awareness and funds for causes that make a positive difference to local people.

This year’s nominated charities were:

  • The Dogs Nobody Wants Sanctuary
  • Slough Museum
  • Special Voices

By sponsoring and participating in the carnival, Cardo was proud to contribute to an event that not only brings the community together but also helps raise the profile of these deserving local organisations. Supporting initiatives like these reflects Cardo’s commitment to delivering lasting social value, strengthening community partnerships and investing in the wellbeing of the communities we serve.
