Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Floor Layer with experience in Cap and Cove installation for social housing projects in Cardiff. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of resilient flooring systems, using cap and cove techniques, in residential properties. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of flooring materials, including vinyl and safety flooring, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and hygiene are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install vinyl and resilient flooring in social housing properties using cap and cove techniques, ensuring secure and seamless joints between the flooring and walls.
- Accurately measure, cut, and lay flooring to suit the layout and design requirements of each room.
- Ensure cove strips are applied properly for a clean and hygienic finish, especially in areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.
- Prepare and level subfloors, ensuring they are clean, dry, and smooth before installing the new flooring.
- Apply necessary underlays and adhesives to ensure a long-lasting and secure flooring installation.
- Identify and repair any floor damage or unevenness to guarantee a high-quality finished product.
- Ensure installations comply with health and safety regulations, especially in environments like healthcare settings and kitchens within social housing.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety while working on occupied properties.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow the correct handling and storage guidelines for flooring materials and tools.
- Carry out repairs to existing cap and cove flooring in social housing properties, addressing any damage, wear, or aesthetic concerns.
- Assist with planned maintenance projects, including refurbishments and upgrades of flooring in communal areas, corridors, and individual flats.
- Work effectively with housing managers, contractors, and residents to understand requirements and ensure smooth workflow.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing any tenant concerns and ensuring minimal disruption during installations.
- Report progress and job completion to site supervisors or project managers in a timely manner.
- Complete work orders, report materials used, and log any issues or concerns on site.
- Ensure accurate reporting on job completion, ensuring that all maintenance or installations are documented for future reference.
Skills & Qualifications:
- roven experience in flooring installations, specifically using the cap and cove method, within social housing, residential, or commercial properties.
- Experience with a variety of flooring materials, including vinyl, rubber, and safety flooring.
- Previous work in social housing environments is highly desirable, especially in residential refurbishments or maintenance.
- Strong ability to measure, cut, and fit flooring materials with precision.
- Excellent understanding of subfloor preparation and surface finishing techniques.
- Knowledge of safety and hygiene standards, particularly in environments like kitchens, bathrooms, and healthcare settings.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Floorcovering (or equivalent).
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card may be required.
- Full UK driving license (as the role involves traveling to various properties).
- Additional qualifications or experience in working within social housing environments would be an advantage.
